This is the classic garden beet. It has a wonderful, sweet taste and the baby leaves make great salad greens.
Detroit Dark Red is a dependable beet that has been popular since it was introduced in the 1890s.
Check out the vintage pictures of Detroit Dark Red from ‘The D.M. Ferry Seed Company’ catalogues of the late 1890s and early 1900s.

How to Grow Beets? Easy to grow. Direct seed in the garden in spring. Sow seeds 1/2″ deep, 2-4″ apart and keep soil moist until seedlings are up. Thin seedlings to about 5″ apart when seedlings are about 2″ tall. Harvest at any size. You can eat the green leaves when young as well.
