This is another great Ken Fisher tomato (see Northern Light and Early Hi-Crimson for more). As its name implies, Cherry Salad is an awesome salad tomato (about 35g/1oz in size). It’s a large cherry tomato (with a little pip on the end), which is the perfect size for snacking right off the vine or adding to salads. We like it when a tomato does what it says it’s going to do. Here is how Ken Fisher, of Fisher’s Seeds of Belgrade, Montana, described Cherry Salad in his 1985 seed catalogue:

Cherry Salad- 58 Days- Fisher’s extra early cherry tomato, self-pruning compact plants loaded with scarlet red 1-inch fruits.

When we acquired our seedstock for Cherry Salad from Seed Savers Exchange in 2020 (almost 40 years after Ken Fisher wrote the above description) this is exactly how Cherry Salad turned out for us.

This tomato starts to produce early summer and then produces right up to the fall. Living up to its name, you will be able to make lots of salads with Cherry Salad.

How to Plant: Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Plant seed 5mm (¼ inch) deep. Keep moist. When true leaves appear, transplant to a larger container if needed. Transplant outside after the danger of frost has passed/later spring.
