Klondike is a masterpiece from Ukraine. It was developed at The Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences (NAAS) of Ukraine. Since 1947, the Institute and its research stations have developed over 500 varieties of vegetables and melons (see Raspberry Viscount).

Plant Characteristics: Klondike produces stunning, deep orange, deeply fluted, beefsteak tomatoes ranging in size from 180g to 300g (6oz to 10oz). They have a good mild sweetness and excellent firm/meaty texture. The plants are crazy productive and early. Plants are about 1 foot high, 2 feet wide; we didn’t stake them, but rather let them sprawl on the ground. Klondike is very easy to maintain. The NAAS catalog description for Klondike also states it is resistant to major diseases and has an increased content of beta-carotene (up to 1.5mg/100g).

How to Plant: Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Plant seed 5mm (¼ inch) deep. Keep moist. When true leaves appear, transplant to a larger container if needed. Transplant outside after the danger of frost has passed/later spring.
