Pole Bean/ Snap Bean
Why do we like this bean?
Fortex almost needs no introduction. This is the famous, great tasting French pole bean with bean pods that can grow to over 10 inches long. And still taste great! Even when the bean pods are long and lumpy with growing beans you can harvest them. Which means you don’t have to worry about picking Fortex right away or worry that you have missed the window on when the bean pods are edible. Fortex is great tasting raw or cooked.
We like how the seed savers at Knapp Family Farms describe Fortex:
“Fortex is utterly delicious. The first bite is a revelation about how good a green bean can be. The crisp texture and sweet beanie taste are excellent. The beans are thin and curvaceous and may be harvested at any length from 6 – 11″. The plants are vigorous and can grow up to 10′ tall. This is a bean variety of superior quality that deserves space in every garden.”
How to Plant: Plant bean seeds in the spring when the soil warms up. For us that is the end of May. Space seeds 3 inches or so apart and sow 1 inch or so deep. For pole varieties, sow 3-4 seeds per pole (no need to thin). Pole beans will twine/climb around poles and other vertical substrates. You can also start bean seeds indoors about 2-3 weeks before you want to plant them outside to get a head start on things.
Within Canada only shipping on beans, thank you.
Fortex is limited to one seed packet per order please, thank you.
