Our ‘All is Well’ leafy greens mix is a deep green feast for your body. It includes a mix of loose leaf and romaine lettuces, red and green kale, pak choy and mild-spicy mustard greens (Red Mustard and ‘Green in Snow’ Mustard, also called Shi-Li-Hon).
Think of leafy greens as Powerhouse Foods. Brassica greens (e.g. kale, pak choy) and leafy greens (e.g. romaine, looseleaf lettuce) are some of the most ‘Powerhouse’ foods you can eat according to a study by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (USA). They define ‘Powerhouse’ foods as foods that provide 10% or more of the daily value of 17 nutrients (i.e. potassium, fiber, protein, calcium, iron, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folate, zinc, and vitamins A, B6, B12, C, D, E, and K). Which plant foods are ‘Powerhouse’ foods? The Top 10 ‘Powerhouse’ plant foods are all cruciferous and leafy greens. From the study: “Nutrient density scores ranged from 10.47% to 122.68%… Items in cruciferous (watercress, Chinese cabbage, collard green, kale, arugula) and green leafy groups (chard, beet green, spinach, chicory, leaf lettuce, romaine) were concentrated in the top half of the distribution of scores.” In other words, leafy greens (yes, that includes lettuce!) are some of the most Powerhouse foods you can eat.
We included many of these different Powerhouse greens in our ‘All is Well’ mix.
We are pretty excited about the different kinds of leafy greens we offer and their health benefits. Check out our Musing on the powerful protective effects and health benefits of leafy greens.
How to Plant: All of the varieties in this mix are easy to grow. Just scatter seeds densely (1″ to 2″ apart) in the garden or in a container. You can pick the greens as baby leaves or mature leaves.
