No USA/ International shipping on peas, thank you.
This is a purple podded sugar snap pea! Yes, you eat the purple pod (with green peas inside); it’s not a garden pea (eat the peas, discard the pod) or a snow pea or soup pea. Royal Snap II was bred to be a purple podded sugar snap pea. This is very exciting. However, we do need to mention that Royal Snap II is not as sweet as Super Sugar Snap. But we think it is sweet enough and appreciate its purple pods as a source of the important antioxidant anthocyanin. For more details about the health benefits of anthocyanins check out our Musings.
Royal Snap II was developed by the famous breeder of Sugar Snap peas – Dr. Calvin Lamborn.
Plants are only about 2 feet high and work well in a container. Royal Snap II does not need a trellis.
How to Plant: Peas are very easy to grow from seed. Plant peas as early as you can in spring; which is generally early May in our Zone 4 gardens. Peas like cool weather and do not grow well when it warms up. Peas love a crowd! Plant peas about 1-2 inches apart and do not thin.
